Two weeks before the first round of the National 1/8 on-road, the CAPA club in Madrid organized a warm-up race to give all drivers a chance to get familiar with the brand new track for this scale.
Both Sergio Montesinos and Inaki Pahissa were running their RX8 officially for the first time, and many eyes were upon the two drivers (and the two cars of course) since it was the first time that Spaniards could see the performance of the car for themselves.
Qualifying ended up with the best result possible for the debut of the RX8 in Spain. Sergio Montesinos TQâ™d the race with a promising pace, and was looking forward to the Nationals. Inaki had to run in the semi-finals.
In semi A, Inaki took the lead right from the start. UIT set-up changes in his RX8 Inaki managed to put in a better pace in the semi-final than in qualifiers, lowering his best lap time. He dominated the semi-final with an advantage of more than 1 lap over 2nd place. Inakiâ™s time was good enough to start the final in position 5.
Sergio started fantastically, driving safely after the start and securing 1st place. Inaki after a great start (in which he overtook two drivers) lost positions on a maneuver to avoid crashing the car ahead. While Sergio drove alone on 1st place, Inaki climbed positions and reached 2nd place⦠and then Inaki started the chase for the lead. Both RX8 where proving to be the best cars on the track and the final minutes of the main where breathtaking. Sergio and Inaki overtook each other four times in the last 3 minutes, crossing the checked flag with a gap of less than 1 second between them.
Inaki had won the race with a great result, considering this was his first race not only with the RX8, but also for Inaki in 1/8 scale! Sergio, who will race this year with XRAY, was very happy with his car, feeling that he can achieve very good results with the RX8 in the upcoming season where he will attend not only the whole Nationals but the Euros in Luxemburg later in summer.
